Handel's "Messiah"Recently Michael played in a performance of Handel's "Messiah" with the Huntingdonshire Philharmonic. The Programme given out at the performance contained the text of Handel's "Messiah", along with the references to the passages from the Bible on which the text was based. A number of years ago, in St. John's, Newfoundland, someone phoned Michael to ask him where in the Bible the words for the "Messiah" come from. It turns out that they come from many different passages in the Bible. Since this person asked the question, it occurred to me that the sources for the text may not be widely known. They are so handily printed in this programme, that I decided to put the text up on this website, along with the references. One can easily become too ambitious, and in trying to do everything, accomplish nothing. One ambition I had was also to put up the Biblical texts themselves, perhaps even the whole chapters from the Bible so that the reader could have the full context for the passages. I have begun this process, but in case I don't finish it, I'll just put up the text here with the links I have been able to accomplish. Please click HERE to begin.
